Wrote this one in 2000 after a brief but heartfelt relationship failure.
Maria and I both liked the Eagles so I thought it would be appropriate to write it in that style. (Where was Glenn Frey and Don Henley when I needed them)?
Year: 2000
t’s late in the evening the telephone rings - gee, it’s great to hear your voice again
But my voice shakes, my heart breaks and I pause for awhile
As you ask me just how I’ve been
Now I could play it cool and tell you a lie and say how great things turned out for me
But if I’m really honest and I tell you the truth
Here’s what my answer would be
I’ve been hopin’ and prayin’ since the day that you left
That somehow, someway you would see
That by hopin’ and prayin’ you’d change your mind
And you’d come back home to me
Now what makes this happen - what makes it hard? This thing between a woman a man
One day we’re fire the next day we’re ice
Guess I just don’t understand
I’ve been hopin’ and prayin’ since the day that you left
That somehow, someway you would see
That by hopin’ and prayin’ you’d change your mind
And you’d come back home to me
Instrumental
Maybe I’m crazy or just an ol’ fool to ever think we could love again
‘cause you’ve got your space girl, that you must be in
That keeps me just being a friend
I’ve been hopin’ and prayin’ since the day that you left
That somehow, someway you would see
That by hopin’ and prayin’ you’d change your mind
And you’d come back home to me
